TCL Introduces The First 50″ 4k Ultra HDTV with sub $1000 Retail Price

TCL just announced they will be releasing a 50-inch Edge LED 4K Ultra HDTV that will retail for $999. We reported in June that Seiki had released their 4k HDTV for $1500, which is now available for about $1100 on Amazon (We’ve seen it as low as $966 before). The TCL 4K HDTV features LED edge lighting for its LCD screen, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and four HDMI ports, which is notable when many budget HDTVs, including the SE50UY04, have only three. One is an MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) HDMI port, which can power certain devices connected to the HDTV.

The set also offers SRS TruSurroundHD sound processing to simulate surround sound with its stereo speakers. As a budget HDTV, the TCL 4K HDTV doesn’t have any online connectivity or streaming media, and it doesn’t support 3D which is offered by the more expensive models from LG and Samsung. The TCL 4k 50″ HDTV will arrive in September in the US Markets.
