New Best Buy promo lets iPhone 4 owners trade up to a Verizon or Sprint 5s for free

Update (5/8 3:00pm): If you’re looking for an AT&T iPhone 5s your best bet would be to sell your old iPhone back to a service like Gazelle or Amazon and then stop by a Radio Shack store where they’ve dropped the price down to $99.99 for all carriers.

Bonus iPhone trade-in offers at Best Buy are nothing new, but this week’s in-store promotion stands above the rest because it enables iPhone 4 owners to trade up to a new Verizon or Sprint iPhone 5s with basically no out of pocket cost.

From now until Sunday May 11th, Best Buy stores will take 50% off Apple’s newest iPhones for Verizon and Sprint, which brings the iPhone 5c down to $49.95 and the iPhone 5s down to $99.99. Best Buy is also offering the following increased trade-in values: iPhone 5 guaranteed $200, iPhone 4s guarenteed $150, and iPhone 4 guaranteed $100. Unfortunately, you must trek down to your local Best Buy to trade your old iPhone in.

These two offers will yield a free iPhone 5s to anyone who is willing to trade-in a working iPhone 4 and sign a new 2-year agreement with the carrier of their choice. I would say Best Buy’s trade-in values are extremely fair considering that Gazelle is currently placing a $30 bounty on a ‘good’ condition Verizon iPhone 4 (8GB). Previous iPhone trade-in deals required buyers to exchange an iPhone 4s or newer to cash in on a free 5s.

It’s possible that this promotion is a reaction to Apple’s rumored iPhone sales push scheduled to begin this week or it simply could be a Mother’s Day promotion. Apple’s next iPhones are expected to be unveiled later this fall and are believed to house larger sapphire crystal screens, but its killer feature could be health tracking.
