The Pokémon Company International announced that its Pokémon Trading Card Game Online is coming to the App Store today. Already available on Mac and PC, this marks the very first time an official Pokémon game has debuted on the iOS platform outside of Pokémon TV and the Pokédex app.

Pokémon TCG Online has players collecting and unlocking cards to build custom decks they can take into battle against both computer and player controlled opponents. Trainers can also earn cards, access booster packs and even trade with other players to design “the perfect deck.” There are a few starter decks to get players going (Fire, Water, and Grass) and as well as various card themes and deck boxes for further personalization.
As we mentioned above, the title is actually a mobile version of an already available Mac/PC web game. The company has designed the two versions to work together, allowing player customizations and decks to sync across both platforms.
It was released in Canada for iPad last Friday (and in some places in Europe this morning including the UK), where it is currently rising up the download charts quite quickly, according to App Annie.
While there are in-app purchases in the form of Gems (the in-game currency) which can be spent on new cards and a number of different personalization items, Pokémon TCG Online is a free download and is now available in the US App Store.
