The popular Plex media app, which organizes your movies, TV shows, music, photos and more across a growing number of platforms, is ready to launch on Sony’s home consoles. By way of the official PlayStation blog, Sony announced that it is making Plex available on PS3 and PS4 as of yesterday.

Plex, which recently added deeper music features to its service, will have a few minor limitations at launch on Sony’s consoles. At this point, Plex for PlayStation only supports video sharing/streaming, but it sounds as though music and photo features will be “coming shortly,” according to Sony.
Many of the apps other popular features are available though, including making “your media library look beautiful on your TV by automatically collecting and displaying bold, beautiful artwork content ratings, plot summaries, and more in large, easy to view screens.”
The service is available on PlayStation for free to Plex Pass subscribers ($4.99 per month, $39.99 per year, Lifetime $149.99), but Sony said it will be making the service available for a “fee” sometime in the future for those without a Plex Pass. PlayStation users in the US, Canada, and Latin America should already see the app available via PSN.
