Here’s the “the world’s largest 2.5-inch SATA” Solid State Drive

Fixstars recently announced what it is calling “the world’s largest 2.5” SATA SSD”. The Fixstars SSD-6000M packs in 6TB of storage, making it the largest capacity SSD in the standard 2.5″ x 9.5mm form factor, according to the company.

With full support for SATA 6Gbps, the new drives bring sequential read speeds of up to 540 MB/s, and write speeds of up to 520MB/s. While the company cites big business, industrial, and medical applications, much like the 1 and 3TB models, the 6000M is also designed for video and networking uses.

The new large capacity SSD will likely reflect its stature in price, so for some the highly rated (and often on sale) Samsung options are a more suitable fit. For those taking on more storage/CPU intensive tasks and business applications, Fixstars is now accepting order/giving quotes and is expected to start shipping come late July in the US.

“The unparalleled performance of our previous model’s (The SSD-3000M) sequential I/O helped propel our SSDs and garner lots of attention. Since many of our customers desire even greater capacity, I am excited to offer a new solution and grow the product line with the inclusion of the larger SSD-6000M.”
