Kuaiwear’s Multisport Biometric Headphones blur the lines between fitness tracker and Bluetooth headset

Over the last year, two of the biggest product categories experiencing growth and development have been fitness tracking and wireless headphones. The inclusion of Bluetooth 4.0 into more devices has helped curb the frustration of poor battery life and inconsistent connectivity. It only seems natural that one day a company would take the data collection from fitness trackers and combine it with Bluetooth headphones.

A new Kickstarter campaign has set out to accomplish just that. Kuaiwear’s Multisport Biometric Headphones combine the data collection of an Apple Watch with the flexibility of wireless headphones into one very interesting package.

Kuaiwear has created a swiss army knife of data collection, short of taking a blood sample there doesn’t seem to be anything it cannot record. Instead of loading up with a variety of heart rate monitors and sensors, this is a one-stop-shop for typical measurables. The built-in accelerometer and infared pulse oximeter can measure calories burned, speed, heart and your maximum VO2 levels. It can also take your heart rate and record distance and speed as well.

Communication and data transfer is handled by an ANT+ and Bluetooth LE connection. That means information from your run, swim or any other activity can be synced with a variety of services and sensors if needed. The iOS or Android app acts as a collection point for your .FIT data. But what about the music?

Aside from being able to act as a traditional wireless pair of headphones, KUAI ships with 8GB of on-board memory. So that means when you’re taking part in more treacherous activities, a phone will not be required to keep the music playing. Multiple earbud shapes and sizes are included for different activities to keep the headphones in place. For instance, swimming requires a tighter fit in the ear canal than biking, where the ability to hear surroundings is needed. Built-in controls on each side handle volume, song selection, phone calls and more. KUAI even has a personal trainer that gives you encouragement and provides updates on your workouts.

With 27 days to go, KUAI has over 50% of its $61,000 goal raised. A pledge of $98 will secure a pair of headphones with an expected ship date of August.
