Portable Solid-State Drives: SanDisk 120GB $60, 240GB $80, Samsung T1 500GB $168 + more capacities

Portable solid-state drives are an excellent medium for carrying around valuable documents or as a way to quickly transfer media from one location to another. While traditional portable hard drives may be cheaper, the difference in speeds is notable.

Amazon has dropped the price on two of SanDisk’s Extreme 500 Portable USB 3.0 Solid-State Drives in two different capacities. The 120GB model is available for $59.99 shipped (Reg. $85), while the larger 240GB capacity can be had for $79.99 shipped (Reg. $120). Both models are also available at B&H and Adorama. This is the first significant price drop on each model since its release this summer. Features include transfer speeds up to “4x faster” than traditional hard drive, no moving part and a “shock-resistant” design. I personally use this hard drive to store and transfer my GoPro videos while I am away from my home computer. While ratings are somewhat slim, they are very positive.

Samsung has launched its Black Friday promotion, delivering a few nice deals on its Portable T1 Solid-State Drive in three different capacities. Adorama offers the lowest prices on each model and throws in a free copy of Assassin’s Creed (on 500GB/1TB), with Amazon and B&H coming in at just a few dollars more.

These are all the lowest current prices that we can find on these highly-rated drives. Features include speeds up to 450MB/s, 256-bit encryption, and a “slim/compact” design.
