Hewlett Packard made a backpack with a massive built-in battery and it actually looks pretty cool, pre-order now

It’s that time of year when students are headed back to school and parents are scrambling to find all the necessary supplies. While Hewlett Packard isn’t necessarily the first name you’d think of when it comes to backpacks, the computer-maker is dabbling in a new area. The HP Powerup Backpack has a surprisingly nice design with a few neat tricks inside…

We’ll just skip right to the internals here first, HP has included a monster 22400mAh battery within the backpack. That’s some massive juice for your iPhone, iPad, MacBook and more. You should be able to get up to ten charges out of your smartphone with that kind of setup. There are multiple USB ports that are kept out-of-sight but can be accessed when needed. Access points include the main storage compartment and a side sleeve.

HP has built in a few sensors that are designed to keep the bag and your gear safe. A thermometer will measure the battery’s temperature and adjust charging speeds as needed. As well, there is a chip within the battery that will identify your device to provide the correct current. It ships with HP laptop and microUSB charging cables but Apple users will need to pick up their own. This setup is actually perfect for 12-inch MacBook users with an added USB-C cable.

Look, this bag isn’t groundbreaking by any means. But, if you’re looking for an all-in-one solution for the school year, HP’s Powerup might be worth a look. The default color scheme is reminiscent of Herschel’s popular backpacks with its simplistic styling.

The Powerup passes all TSA requirements as a carry-on bag and is loaded with internal storage compartments. Padded sleeves and zip-tight pockets should provide enough protection to keep your gear safe. The HP Powerup Backpack is available for pre-order today for $199.99 shipped and is slated to ship in early October.
