Few product categories have enjoyed as much growth as consumer-grade drones over the last 12 months. From DJI’s Phantom line to new entries from Parrot and others, interest has quickly risen in 2016. Competitive pricing and easy-to-fly designs have made quadcopters more appealing to the masses than ever before.
Although DJI’s Phantom 4 is an incredible machine, there are ways to improve your experience. We’ve rounded up some of the best add-ons to help bring your content to life while also protecting your device. Head below for the best DJI Phantom accessories.
Backpacks
Thankfully, DJI started including a carrying case with the Phantom 4. It’s not the most stylish of storage options, however. Using a third-party bag will give you more storage space for accessories, extra batteries and more over the official case. There are a number of bags out there that are designed specifically for DJI’s drones. Here are a few of our favorites:
Manfrotto makes a couple of different options that are compatible with each Phantom model. The high-end MB Case sells for around $200 at Amazon and includes room for a DSLR and lens, accessories, extra batteries and a camera mount. Padded compartments ensure that your gear is safe from bumps and bruises. One thing that I like about this bag is that the storage areas are not as tightly defined, allowing you to fit more gear. Manfrotto’s Phantom Backpack comes in at about 15% less and has a custom divider system that velcros into place. It has arguably more room with a designated area to store a MacBook and a tripod. PolarPro, DJI and Lowepro all make high-quality options that are worth checking out, too.
If you’re looking for something a bit more cost-effective, Atomik RC makes a generic bag for drones that comes in at $65. It doesn’t have nearly the level of protection or a big-name, but it will get the job done on a budget.
Lenses
The Phantom 4 has a pretty incredible optics system. It’s certainly an upgrade over using an add-on GoPro that was required on the older models. Thankfully, DJI allows you the option of using third-party lenses. Simply screw off the front of the camera and you can replace it with any compatible option.
PolarPro makes some of the best filters for each of DJI’s drones. They’ve done a nice job of offering different styles ranging in price from $30 up to $200. The basic ND filter is a must-have for capturing footage with higher clarity and maximum sharpness. There are five different options to choose from at this price point depending on your desired look from photos or videos. The $100 Cinema Series Shutter Collection uses multi-coated glass for an even clearer picture. A $150 Professional Pack includes all six neutral density lenses for cloudy or sunny days, no matter the conditions. Each of PolarPro’s lenses are made with aircraft-grade aluminum that is designed to match the stock filter in weight and design.
Power supplies
One thing that I cannot stress enough is the importance of adding a second battery to your Phantom setup. DJI has yet to master extended flight times, making an extra power supply very helpful. You’ll want to opt for the official first-party options here. Going away from the DJI brand is ok on some accessories but you really don’t want your drone crashing because a no-name battery failed. Amazon offers model-specific batteries from DJI that generally run between $100 and $130. Trust me, it’s a worthwhile investment.
