Bang & Olufsen’s BeoSound Shape AirPlay and Chromecast speakers are almost here

It seems like many audio companies have become very stylish and now sell unique home speaker systems. Last week we saw Urbanears introduce its Connected Speakers which features both AirPlay and Chromecast compatibility. Those special speakers come in fun colors that make your home pop. A similar, wall-mountable, home speaker system was introduced this week.

Like the Connected Speakers, the BeoSound Shape from Band & Olufsen is an AirPlay and Chromecast enabled wireless speaker system for design-conscious music lovers. It also comes in various colors, and features hexagonal panels to create the perfect shape for a given wall in your home.

The custom design that the BeoSound Shape allows for really gives you control over the vibe of your living room. To further enhance the experience, it’s able to play music through 44 individual speakers in high quality. In addition, the BeoSound Shape has multiroom abilities that allow for a setup that unites multiple rooms in a household as one audio system.

Thanks to B&O’s clever “upmixing algorithm,” no matter how you organize your speaker pattern on the wall, the audio will always be centered to wherever you may be standing in the room. Now that’s a smart speaker. You can scale your unit to its preferred size and pattern, including color, and a range of fabric options lets customers be as animated or subtle as they’d like.

The BeoSound Shape is supposedly the solution to poor room acoustics. The damper tiles absorb sound waves instead of reflecting them, which not only improves your music experience but also actively refines the entire acoustic atmosphere in the room – even when the system is switched off. B&O is confident that anyone, “from private homes to public spaces and everything in between,” can find the perfect speaker setup with the BeoSound Shape.

Getting down to the details, the amplifier tile includes connections such as Toslink digital audio input, USB, Power Link input, and Amplifier input and output. The speaker tile includes a woofer and a tweeter. Wi-Fi is supported as well as Bluetooth 4.1. The BeoSound Shape can be controlled via the iOS and Android app or via the Essence Remote.

The Bang & Olufsen BeoSound Shape is expected to go on sale in August. Interested customers can sign up at Bang & Olufsen to be notified when preorders go live. Expected pricing is around $4,200.
