Optoma new line of 4K and HDR-ready projectors, starting just under $2,000

We all love a trip to the movies, after all, nothing beats seeing a summer blockbuster in front of the big screen. Many of us want to try and recreate the same experience in our homes, and often times a TV just doesn’t cut it. Projectors are often a go-to, but rarely lack features like 4K and HDR at a reasonable price. Today, Optoma looks to change that by unveiling two new models of 4K-ready projectors starting at just under $2,000.

Optoma has been in the projector game for years, and in fact, was the number one manufacturer of consumer 1080p home projectors last year. Looking to improve on its already widely-praised projectors, the company seeks to add features commonly found in high-end TVs like 4K, HDR and UHD to two of its new models.

Both of Optoma’s new projector will sport a ‘vertical lens shift and a 1.6X zoom’ which essentially means that it can deliver 4K UHD content onto a screen size of 300-inches. The new projectors don’t skimp out on ports either, offering two HDMI and a single HDCP input.

Optoma offers two distinct options in its new 4K projector lineup, the Optoma UHD60 and Optoma UHD65. While you won’t be able to tell that just from the names, the features certainly differentiate the two models. On the lower end, the UHD60 outputs a brightness of 3,000 lumens, and has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The UHD60’s features gear it towards the home market, just as with their previous projectors.

Taking a look at the more higher-end version, the UHD65 projector only has a brightness of 2,200 lumens, as well as a contrast radio of 1,200,000:1, but sports a much larger range of color, which is said to be extraordinary compared to the other model.

The biggest standout feature is the inclusion of what Otpoma calls ‘PureMotion video processing technology’, which eliminates motion blurring or image judder from one’s content. This, as well as the other features make UHD65 much better suited towards the pro market rather than its home-based counterpart.

In terms of pricing, both models are definitely on the higher-end, with the UHD60 coming in at just under $2,000, and the UHD65 at $2,499. With the former, you’ll find it available from retailers like Amazon, B&H Photo and Beach Camera, fitting into the company’s emphasis on it as a home projector solution. The UHD65 on the other hand will only be available directly from home theater venders.
