Xchime is your video doorbell that actively deters would-be thieves

Every day we witness more and more household smart devices, and today that will be no different. Xchime is a smart video doorbell that is fully funded on Indiegogo and will be shipping to buyers later this year. Indeed, we have seen a solid amount of smart doorbells recently, and now we will take a look at what makes this one different.

In general, smart doorbells aim to make it easier for us to know who steps up to our front door, wherever we may be. It’ll notify your smartphone when someone rings it and stream a live 1080p HD video feed of whoever is standing there. The included app can also show you recorded video footage from the cloud.

Xchime has a few other features you may be familiar with, like advanced motion detection. If anyone approaches the front door, it can send a notification if you so desire. In addition, there is an optional smart light integration that automatically turns on a special bulb (inside your house) via Bluetooth when motion is detected.

If the smart light add-on wasn’t enough, Xchime also offers a garage door add-on. This feature provides the ability to open or close your garage from the Xchime app, simply by setting up the garage door opener kit. As many home owners sometimes forget to close their garage doors, you can view the status of your garage door from your mobile device.

The Xchime app is compatible with both iOS and Android, and lets you control your doorbell and review footage all in one simple dashboard. While viewing live video, the interface provides a button to record or to take a still image. As you might assume, it also has a microphone button that will allow you to speak to someone at the door.

If you’ve heard of the Ring Doorbell, you might be thinking these two products have very similar features. While you are correct, the extra add-ons that Xchime offers actually are a significant aspect of preventing theft. Light is a major deterrent to would-be thieves, and having that installed will surely prevent potential break-ins.

Other than add-ons, lag time is a common complaint with other video doorbells. Many of us likely understand the frustration of having a 7 or 8 second delay from when someone pushes the doorbell to when you can see and hear what’s going on. Xchime has supposedly mastered the art of zero lag in its live video streaming.

Xchime Doorbell is available for pre-order on Indiegogo for $129 with estimated delivery in August this year. The garage door add-on is $15 and the smart lightbulb add-on is $19.
