REVO’s wooden frame helps make it a more stylish bicycle built for two

Normally when you think of a two person bike, I’d be willing to bet some form of tandem bike ends up popping into your head. If you value a well designed ride at all, these bikes aren’t really an option to accompany you and your significant other on an afternoon cruise around town. A new bike concept named REVO wants to break the mold of the typical two person ride.

From the mind of Tamás Túri, a Hungarian inventor, REVO was designed to tackle the ambitious goal of being the best general purpose city bike. Central to this design was the incorporation of a scooter-like seat, which the rest of the bike’s structure revolves around. Serving two main purposes, the elongated saddle not only allows for two persons to ride the bike, but also ‘makes prolonged rides more comfortable as well.’

REVO’s design also encompasses two different-sized wheels in order to preserve the performance of a regular bike, while still achieving the ability to support multiple riders. With a larger back wheel, the bike can offer better support for the extended seat and compensate for any balance issues which may arise from an onboard passenger.

The materials that compose REVO also help set it apart from other commuter bikes. Thanks to a combination of wooden, steel and even 3D printed components, the bicycle achieves a build that boasts the same durability you’d expect, but with the added benefits of a lighter, more flexible frame.

Comprised mainly of wood, the frame itself is then supported by steel components to assist with maintaining the bike’s structure. Thanks to the flexibility of the wood, REVO is said to be more comfortable to ride on rougher concrete roads. To achieve its final design, REVO utilizes 3D printed accent pieces that help blend the two frame materials together into a more streamlined finish.

The bike’s design and material composition also allows REVO to be constructed almost entirely by the owner; think of it as an Ikea cycling kit of sorts.

As of now, REVO is still in its development phase. While it does look to be in its final design iteration, there’s no word if the bike plans to make its way to consumers with a production run. That being said, REVO is proof that a bike can seat two without giving up all its street cred. It may not flash the same style that other city bikes have, but it’s certainly better than any tandem bicycle I’ve seen.

The REVO is designed to be the ultimate city bike. With its unconventional aesthetics it serves every need of a daily rider. The REVO has a scooter-inspired saddle that’s much wider, elongated, and therefore more comfortable for long rides. The revolutionary long seat is designed for two passengers. With mixed 3D printed plastic, wooden and steel materials the cruiser is both flexible, durable and light at the same time. A new way of city transportation had been born and its more sustainable than ever.
