AOC and F. A. Porsche team up on the “world’s thinnest IPS panel” monitors

AOC and the design team at Studio F. A. Porsche have teamed up on a pair of new monitors for your desktop. The displays combine AOC’s knack for creating affordable yet well-received products with the sleek design sensibilities of the folks at F. A. Porsche. Expect one of the thinnest panels around along with an interesting modular connectivity system. All that and more below the jump…

Based on the work of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche himself, AOC is pushing the functional aesthetics of the monitors as a main selling point.

They feature what is described as the world’s thinnest IPS panel at 5.2mm and an “ultra-thin” bezel. The new displays have AOC SuperColor Technology built-in as well, which is said to improve the color response and range significantly (100% of the sRGB and 90% of the NTSC colors) while providing solid viewing angles up to 178 degrees.

Both the 24- and 27-inch models clock in with a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 50M:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 250 cd/m2 brightness and HDMI connectivity. AOC has also introduced LowBlue Mode and FlickerFree tech to the PDS-series, which it says will promote a healthier and less stressful experience during long days at the office.

As you likely noticed, on top of the overall thin and sleek look here, there is an intersting, snake-like asymmetric stand carrying the display. This is largely where Porsche’s design sensibilities come into play as this is much more than just a fashion choice.

The new 24-inch AOC PDS241 and 27-inch AOC PDS271 are also the very first displays with the AOC/Porsche designed modular input/output system. All connectivity to the monitor runs down a proprietary cable from the backside of the display, through its asymmetrical stand and out to a hub of sorts. On there, you’ll find your typical HDMI 1.4 connection and the power socket. Essentially, that means you’ll have just one cable neatly running from the back of the monitor – providing you have a handy place to hide the brick – allowing the design on the monitor to keep your desk nice and tidy. Now I’m not sure the asymmetrical look is required for this the way Porsche hints at, but it’s a nice and clean look and we always love getting those pesky cables out of the way.

Both the 24-inch and the 27-inch Studio F.A. Porsche designed models are available exclusively at Amazon for pre-order at $199.99 and $249.99, respectively. You can expect a July 24th release date.
