Today is Xbox One X day! Whether you were lucky enough to get your hands on a console, or waiting for a potential Black Friday deal, chances are your interest has been piqued. I opted for the Day One Project Scorpio Edition personally. It arrived this afternoon and I thought we’d give 9to5Toys readers a quick unboxing. Head below for a video and a few first impressions.

Microsoft has certainly learned a thing or two about putting together a quality first impression experience since original Xbox One hit store shelves a few years back. Everything about Xbox One X is neatly assembled, and the importance Microsoft has placed on the experience is certainly evident right away.
When first popping open the box, you’ll find some literature and a Xbox Live trial for new gamers. There are two accessory boxes that include the controller, power and HDMI cables, as well as a controller. Now, with the Project Scorpio Edition, you’ll notice a few differences from the standard unit that will be in-stores. There’s different branding on both the console and controller that denote the special edition unit. All of the variations are strictly cosmetic, however.

Having opted to skip the Xbox One S, I was amazed at how much smaller the X is in comparison to the original version. The build quality looks to be top-notch and Microsoft has certainly learned from some of its mis-steps in previous generations. Most notably is the integrated power block, which is a welcome sight for veteran gamers. Gone are the days of the bulky power supply sitting behind the TV, as Microsoft has slimmed things down considerably.
I’ve not had the chance to do much gaming yet, as my console just arrived this afternoon. But you can certainly tell a difference in performance and speed over the first generation. More details on this coming in our in-depth review later. I do wish that Microsoft would’ve included an Elite controller, particularly with the Project Scorpio edition, alas that isn’t the case.
Look for more in the coming months as we get more time with Microsoft’s latest release. For those on the fence, hang tight through Black Friday as we might see some deals during Thanksgiving week. I expect most retailers to be limited to doorbusters, gift cards or free games but someone may surprise with a cash discount.
