Citybird Eagle electric scooter delivers 15mph speeds in a carbon fiber design

Citybirds, a Lithuanian-based startup, has been cranking out two-wheeled scooters for a while now. And while the designs are stunning, they’ve been slow to jump into the electric-powered market. This week at the ISPO trade show in Munich, Germany, Citybirds unveiled its first take on an electric scooter. With smartphone integration and speeds up to 15mph, the minimalistic ‘Eagle’ offers an attractive design for commuters and kids alike.

The Citybird Eagle is manufactured around a carbon fiber frame that folds up and transforms into a footprint small enough to fit in your backpack. That slim design does come with a few drawbacks, however. A unique curved design of the front axis allows the handlebars to tuck right up under the wheel, making it easier to carry (according to the startup).

Eagle is rated for around 10-miles of range on a full charge, which isn’t going to get your very far if it’s your daily rider. A built-in battery can be found just below the deck, which does power up via an induction charging plate. There’s few details available at this time on how Eagle might be re-fueled while away from home, at the office for instance. Within the front wheel is a 36V electric hub motor that allows riders to hit a top-speed of 15mph.

People nowadays are in a hurry in all aspects of their life, they are so eager to grow up, to earn money and to live, thus forgetting about the present days. We believe you may convert your hurrying into a delightful and pleasant process, and a kick scooter here may be a tool, helping to achieve this goal.

A built-in display on the handlebar relays remaining battery life, turn-by-turn directions and other pertinent data. Eagle also connects with your smartphone, like many of electric commuters these days, to offer a deeper level of integration and features. The display can also show smartphone notifications and social media notifications if connected with a still-in-development iOS and Android app.

Final details on pricing and availability are still in the works, but we do know that Citybird is aiming for a late 2018 release date. Our best guess is that the price will fall somewhere in the ballpark of $1,000+, given its premium features. Time will tell if consumers are willing to shell out that much money for a scooter with a maximum 10-mile range.

In the meantime, you may want to check out Razor’s E100 Electric Scooter, which retails for around $100. With speeds up to 10MPH and simple designs, this is a great way to jump into the world of alternative-powered transportation.
