On Monday, Sony announced the first State of the Play of the year, and we are just minutes away now. After getting a good look at some upcoming Xbox titles last week, it’s now time for PlayStation to step into the spotlight with what will be quite a lengthy showcase highlighting some of the upcoming titles to grace the platform this year and beyond. There are over 15 titles on the slate today, and you can follow along with this afternoon’s State of the Play showcase down below. 

The first PlayStation State of Play of 2024 is scheduled for this week. After getting a lengthy gaming showcase from the folks over at Xbox with the first look at the new Indiana Jones game, it’s now PlayStation’s turn. Sony has taken to the official PlayStation Blog today to announce the next State of Play showcase, and we are just about 48 hours away from showtime. Kicking off this Wednesday, Sony is now ready to get its gamers stoked for what’s to come with a look at over a dozen PS5 and PS VR2 titles. Head below for all of the details. 

A new DualSense PlayStation 5 controller could be on the way. While rumors of a new PS5 Pro console continue, some of which suggesting we could see a launch or reveal sometime this year, retail listings have recently been spotted from a pair of outlets suggesting we could be seeing a new PlayStation 5 controller with upgraded specs and an included charging station coming down the pipeline in an official capacity from Sony. Sony debuted the PS5 Slim console back in October, but we might be getting that PS5 Pro after all. While all of this is to be taken with more than just a grain of salt, rumor has it some of the specs of the new pro-grade machine might have already leaked with others saying Sony is expecting a leak sometime this month. The PS5 Slim was more of cross-grade over what was the standard PS5, introducing a new attachable disc drive, a slimmer form-factor, and a marginally different design, but some of the potentially leaked details are pointing towards what could be a full-on PS5 Pro upgrade. Now roughly 12 hours before web-slingers everywhere can finally jump into the epic new Spider-Man 2 on PlayStation, Sony and developer Insomniac have hit us with a rundown of the game’s photo mode as well as the new story recap trailer. The latter of which delivers “The Story So Far” as told by Miles and Peter so gamers can get a recap of sorts to prime them for tomorrow’s official release of the next entry in the PlayStation series. After featuring the new official collector’s art books this morning, Sony has now unveiled the official Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launch trailer. Hype for the PlayStation exclusive has been ramping up all year and Sony has now unleashed the official launch trailer as we inch closer and closer to the game’s release date this upcoming Friday. Just before the reveal of the Spider-Man 2 special edition PlayStation 5 console, DualSense controller, and console covers, Sony hit us with a story trailer to flesh out the game’s narrative and now a short but very sweet and, frankly, quite epic glimpse at what’s to come later this week. After Microsoft jacked up the price of its popular Game Pass subscriptions, PlayStation Plus price hikes are on the way. Buried in the bottom of today’s September PS Plus freebie game collection announcement, Sony has now said it will officially be raising the price of PlayStation Plus tiers. Some two days after the September freebies go live, Sony will be “increasing the price for PlayStation Plus 12-month subscriptions globally across all benefit plans.” Head below for more details. 

Update: We now know the PlayStation Portal remote player will launch in select markets on November 15, 2023 and is now available for pre-order at direct.playstation.com in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Sony says that starting on September 29, 2023 PlayStation Portal remote player can also be pre-ordered from other select retailers in these countries, as well as Canada and Japan.

Today Sony took to its official PlayStation Blog to detail the new PlayStation handheld – as we expected, the PlayStation Portal remote player is less a console and more, well, a portal player (more on this below). Alongside details on the PS5 companion player, it also introduced the new Pulse Elite wireless headset and Pulse Explore wireless earbuds – the latest additions to its official audio lineup.
