Wakē uses infrared sensors and parametric speakers to peacefully wake up one person at a time

We’ve all been there – your partner has an early meeting or prefers to get up before you do, the screeching alarm wakes you up, disrupting a wonderful night of sleep. Humans have searched for years to try to solve this problem without much success. While companies such as Philips have attempted to replicate a sunrise-like wakening experience, it is ultimately just a light that turns on slowly at a pre-set time.

A new Kickstarter program is aiming to change all that with infrared sensors, a parametric speaker and smartphone connectivity…

Wakē utilizes these technologies to create an individualized alarm experience that can alert one person in a peaceful way while leaving the other sleeping. It is all built around a white brick-looking box that mounts above your bed. Tell Wakē via the iOS or Android app which side of the bed you sleep on and it will cast a soft LED light and focused sound towards your location to wake you up. By utilizing infrared sensors, it can shift to pin-point the location of the user and target them individually leaving the other person in bed resting peacefully. Need more time to sleep? Simply touch the notification on your device and the system will come back to you in a few minutes.

After the first person rises for their day, Wakē will lock-in on those still sleeping and wake them at the appropriate time. The rechargeable battery only needs a boost “a few times a year” according to the funding page, all of the necessary mounting materials are included with the product.

Wakē is currently a few days into its Kickstarter campaign and has raised 78% of its $100,000 goal. You’ll be able to reserve one by pledging $249, its release is slated for September.
