SanDisk details new portable USB C solid-state drives for MacBook and high capacity flash drives

After announcing new internal solid-state drives last week, SanDisk is back again with new portable storage options for Mac and PC users. This time the popular accessory manufacturer has expanded its line of portable SSDs and USB 3.0 Flash Drives.

Head below for the full details, pricing and availability.

SanDisk will be releasing two portable solid-state drives that are designed for the different needs of consumers. These new SSDs are headlined by the Extreme 900, which features a “pocket-sized” portable design in capacities up to 2TB and is aimed at professionals. That’s more storage than many of the current portable SSD offerings on the market today.

The Extreme 900 will ship with USB C, as well as USB 3.1 Type A cables and will be wrapped in aluminum. Opting for a metal enclosure plus the flexible connectivity options make this an attractive option for MacBook users. The larger storage capacities should be a nice complement to Apple’s laptops for on-the-go professionals. The 900 will start at $399.99 for the 480GB capacity, going up to $599.99 for 960GB and $999.99 for 2TB.

While the 900 is described as “pocket-sized”, SanDisk also has a new Extreme 500 coming out that is “half the size of a cellphone”. This USB 3.0 device is designed for photographers and other professionals dependent on media. SanDisk’s Extreme 500 is priced as follows: 120GB/$99.99, 240GB/$149.99 and 480GB/$239.99. These new solid-state drives will ship with a three-year warranty.

On the smaller side of things, SanDisk also announced two USB 3.0 flash drives. The first one, dubbed “Ultra”, is the company’s first 256GB offering in this arena. These flash drives can push speeds up to 100MB/s. Additionally, SanDisk will be releasing the “world’s smallest” flash drive, the Ultra Fit in a 128GB capacity as well. According to the press release, users can expect speeds up to 130MB/s.

These new models will be available soon with the 256GB retailing for $199.99, with the smaller 128GB going for $119.99. A five-year warranty is included. Previous flash drives offerings from SanDisk have been well received by consumers, making these new products worth a look.
