Canon’s best-selling DSLR steps aside for the new Wi-Fi-enabled Rebel T6

Canon’s best-selling prosumer DSLR, the T5, is finally getting a replacement. This camera moves on after two years as one of the most popular models on the market. Today, Canon has announced the EOS Rebel T6 DSLR camera, which will take over the entry-level spot in its lineup. The latest addition will fall in behind the pricier T6i and T6s. Today’s news comes just weeks after the company announced the upcoming EOS 80D and G7 X Mark II. Full details below…

The Canon T6 isn’t going to blow anyone away with its modest specs but that doesn’t mean it won’t offer significant value for aspiring photographers. It will ship with a 18-megapixel CMOS sensor and Digic 4+ image processor. The ISO will top out at 12,800 and the T6 will be able to capture 3fps in continuous shooting mode. Videographers will be able to record in full 1080p HD at up to 30fps or 720p at 60fps.

Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity are a thankful addition that wasn’t included in the previous generation model. This will allow photographers to transfer photos wirelessly between the camera and Cannon’s EOS remote app for iOS and Android.

On the backside, you’ll find a three-inch LCD display with a 920k-dot resolution. Much to our chagrin, it doesn’t articulate, so you’ll be left bending your arm around for selfies. The screen should be good enough for general use but it’s not as sharp as most new releases that we see these days.

So what’s it going to cost you? The T6 is slated to hit retailers in April for $550 here in the United States. It will include a EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lens, as well. You can pre-order the T6 at Amazon or B&H today. For comparison sake, we currently have Canon’s T6i in refurbished condition for for $580 shipped and the T6s for $850 shipped. Each model goes through a stringent refurbishment process, so you know they’ll arrive in solid shape. If you prefer new and can live without Wi-Fi connectivity, the T5 is retailing for $299 at Woot.
