Heatworks MODEL 3 water heater is your iOS solution to high utility bills

Anyone who pays the monthly gas or electric bill knows how frustrating it can be to monitor your usage and experience unnecessary high bills. This year I’ve had my own problems where I turned off central its wating after receiving my gas bill, which somehow did not change the price of gas for the next month. It’s about time we’ve moved on from the century-old method of dealing with our home utilities.

Today we have a brand new kind of water heater management device to talk about, called MODEL 3. Rather than a heating element that develops sediment inside the same tank, there’s finally a new way to do this. This one is Wi-Fi enabled and uses modern technology to purify our water to the max.

The average American household, according to the Energy Information Administration, spends about $2,024 each year on energy costs. 14% of that amount is water heating and that’s where the MODEL 3 comes in. With this device, you’ll get more hot water and reduce the overall cost of heating water by about 40%.

MODEL 3 heats water using graphite electrodes which are used in place of traditional metal heating elements. Through electronic controls, the naturally occurring minerals in your water are excited, producing heat as a byproduct of this process. The only thing that gets hot is the water, which means no scaling or corrosion over time. Therefore, the MODEL 3 will never require any maintenance and has a significantly longer lifespan.

As I’m sure you were all waiting for this, the MODEL 3 will combine IoT with home water heating management. The Heatworks app allows the monitoring of water usage each day, preferred temperature settings for a shower, or even limiting heated showers to certain times. The Wi-Fi enabled app will also offer insights to your water and energy usage, and will also accurately allow you to maintain temperature preferences.

The number of units you may need will be dependent upon three main factors. How much power you need for heating, your incoming ground water temperature, and the flow rate in gallons per minute (GPM) of your fixtures. An average shower head is 2.0GPM and some might be 1.25GPM. When set to full power (100A), one MODEL 3 unit will produce an 82 degrees (F) rise in temperature at a 2.0GPM demand.

The MODEL 3 Water Heater is available for pre-order on Kickstarter at $389 with expected delivery this October. With 36 more days to go, this product is rapidly approaching its funding goal. Retail price will be $599.
