Last fall, Nomad unveiled its Silicone Strap for Apple Watch and we called it “the Sport Band that should’ve come from Cupertino.” Fast forward to this week, and they are back again with a new silicone Sport Strap that blends the same soft materials with bright colors. We jumped at the chance to go hands-on following our experience last go-around. Head below for a quick look at the new $50 Sport Strap for Apple Watch from Nomad.

One of the things that first strikes me about Nomad’s Sport Strap is the LSR silicone material used throughout. Unlike other third-party bands that I’ve tried, this particular material is unbelievably soft and smooth. This makes a big difference when it’s attached to your wrist everyday. By comparison, even Apple’s in-house silicone can be rather rigid and uncomfortable when not set to the exact right length.

The inside of the band is smooth, while the outside has a slight texture to it. I’d describe the entire experience as buttery, which sadly is the best that I can do. It’s the most comfortable Sport Band that I’ve worn to date.

Apple released its Nike+ bands to the public a few months back to much fanfare. The bright colors, particularly the greenish-yellow variation, has been a big hit for those looking to standout. Nomad leans on that trend by offering its own version in Volt, which can be seen on the inside as well as through each loop. A Slate gray version is also available, too.

Instead of opting for a stainless steel pin like most sport bands, Nomad has a hard-molded plastic connector in its place. This system works well overall but you do miss out on that pop of metal on the band.

The integrated connectors work well in my testing, sliding neatly into place and locking securely. My one qualm is the band nearly doubles in thickness where it meets the Watch. This causes a problem for smaller wrists like mine, which is only made worse by Nomad including just one size and not a S/M and M/L replacement strap like Apple does.

Nomad’s Sport Strap comes in at $50 which makes it a great comparison for Apple’s official Sport bands that retail for the same price. What I love about the option from Nomad is that it brings an entirely different look to your wearable than you’ll typically see. You’re paying more than most third-party bands from Amazon sellers, but getting the return of higher quality materials and a trusted name.

The Sport Strap gets a solid recommendation from me for its looks and feel. Nomad has once again proven itself to be a strong player in the Apple accessory market with its latest release.
