Smarter Coffee 2.0 brews on-demand drinks from your iPhone or Android

When it comes to coffee, I’m interested in any and every option out there. Pour over, french press, syphon, you name it, I’ll try it. While that list continues to expand, one thing I’ve yet to do is have my iPhone make me a cup of joe first thing in the morning. The new Smarter Coffee machine wants to change that. Yes, it’s smartphone-connected and Android users are also welcome to the party.

Where Smarter hopes to differentiate itself is through its all-in-one design. This app-enabled brewer handles your coffee from grinding beans all the way to a finished product. This all sounds pretty great, if you’re willing to pay up that is.

To be fair, this is hardly the first smartphone-connected brewer that we’ve seen on the market. Belkin and Mr. Coffee partnered up a few years back, but the response wasn’t exactly through the roof. Smart Coffee adds a few features that might put it over the top for coffee-lovers and tech-heads alike.

It all starts with the app, which is designed for both iOS and Android users. That includes the ability to determine cup size, strength, and grind settings all before the beans are even prepped. There’s the usual scheduling features, too, so your cup of coffee will be ready first thing in the morning. An integrated hot-plate will also keep your drink warm for at least 40 minutes.

Smarter Coffee – 2nd Generation is designed to be simple and convenient in your home, ensuring an enriched brew every time. Let Smarter Coffee wait on you, control via the Smarter app from anywhere in, or out, of the home.

One cool thing about the app is that it uses geofencing technology to track when you’ve arrived home. You can set it to automatically ping you and ask if you’d like a fresh cup of coffee brewed. Smarter is able to provide this on-demand feature thanks to its built-in grinder and storage area that holds your unground beans. Each time it fires up, it goes through all the steps of prepping your drink, which hopefully means better flavor.

Smarter is also compatible with services like Alexa, IFTTT, and Nest. You can shout out to Amazon’s voice assistant that you’re ready for another pot of coffee and she’ll handle the rest.

If you’re interested in the new Smarter Coffee, it will be available to purchase later this year with a $250 price tag. Initially, there will be three different colors to choose from, including cream, black and red.
