Social media has made it easier than ever to share photos and videos with our friends and family. But over time this endeavor has become more impersonal. Loop, a new digital picture frame, looks to solve this by aggregating all of this important content into a single place for viewing in ones home.
Loop is based around the idea of sharing content with a more tight-knit circle than social media typically offers. And just like early digital picture frames it displays select photos and videos from different sources in our lives. As of now, Loop supports connections with Apple Photos, Facebook, Instagram and Dropbox but is said to have more on the way.
Packed within the 10-inch high resolution display you’ll find 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as well as a battery for added portability. A speaker array is also included to flesh out its ability to play video as well as the support for another noteworthy feature.
The digital picture frame also sports voice and video conferencing functionality alongside its ability to showcase photos and videos. The companion iOS and Android app allows you to video chat with a connected Loop, just like you would through FaceTime or Skype. It can also makes calls between other Loop devices, a feature similar to Alexa’s voice calling.
Once set up with the smartphone app, Loop is entirely self-reliant and will pull in photos from your desired sources automatically. On the left-hand side of the device you’ll find two knobs which can be used to skip through photos as well as through entire channels of content. The built-in microphone also allows you to control Loop entirely though voice commands.
Loop is now available for preorder at $249 per device and is said to be shipping by the end of the month. If you’re looking to pick up more than one, bundle packs are also available which drop the cost per Loop down to $199. Compared to the Amazon Echo Show, the Loop’s price seems fairly high for the features you’re getting. But if a dedicated photo viewing machine is all you’re after, Loop seems to be the simplest, most family-oriented option of them all.
