9to5Toys Gift Guide: Trevor’s five favorite tech gifts under $50

Shopping for the tech enthusiast in your life this holiday season can be a difficult proposition. We’ve all been there; trying to find a worthwhile gift without breaking the bank. I’ve put together a list of my five favorite tech gifts for the holiday season, all of which are priced under $50. Hopefully you’ll find something here that will ease the burden of having that technophile on your list.

I’ve tried to go beyond the obvious gifts that we’re all familiar with this time of year. You can pick up a decent enough Bluetooth speaker for under $50 just about any day. Anker and UE are some of our favorites for stocking-stuffers but most folks have these around the house these days. The same can be said for battery packs and wall chargers, nearly every device ships with its own power supply and most of our readers have already picked up one or two themselves.

So with the no-brainer tech accessories marked off the list, it’s time to dig deeper. Here’s five ideas that might help satisfy your shopping list.

Logitech MX Anywhere 2 Wireless Mouse: $49.99

We’re huge fans of Logitech around here and its MX Anywhere 2 mouse is one of the best in the game. What I love about the Anywhere 2 is its fully customizable buttons thanks to the Logitech Options app. I set mine to open certain apps and toggle windows. But the real start of the show is the hyper-fast scroll wheel. Paired with a satisfying click-click-click, this is the best mouse I’ve ever used. Buy it for the frequent traveler in your life…they’ll thank you later.

Nomad’s Carabiner Cables: from $15

Nomad has been around for some time now but its unique take on smartphone and Mac accessories continually puts these products on our list year after year. Carabiner cables are an easy stocking stuffer for both the iPhone and Android user on your list, and there’s even one for DSLRs and GoPros. I’ve been using the Lightning cable model for some time, especially while on-the-road. Best of all? It doubles as a keychain.

Native Union 4-port USB-A/C Wall Charger: $40

Like Nomad, Native Union does a great job of taking a regular product category and pushing it to the next level. A foldable plug and the inclusion of both USB-A and C ports here make this wall charger a standout. It charges at up to 3A per port making it a perfect option for just about any mobile device.

8Bitdo SF30 Pro Controller: $49.99

2017 has been the year of retro gaming. Just as we expected, 8bitdo is right there in the thick of it with its popular controllers. Its newest version works for a variety of platforms and has that iconic SNES styling. With USB-C charging and real vibrating motors, this is a must-have for any gamer.

Google Home Mini: $29 w/ $25 credit

Google Home Mini is the hottest gift this holiday season thanks to its semi-permanent price drop to $29. Walmart is throwing in an extra credit with the purchase of one as well. This is the best way to enter the world of Google Assistant for minimum stress on your pocketbook. At $29, it’s a no-brainer.
