Our phones have amazing cameras. Honestly, regardless of what phone you pick up these days, you’ll likely get a camera that will beat most point and shoot offerings. One thing that dedicated cameras have over phones, however, is options for lenses. You can change your zoom range, get in closer, farther away, make the shot look however you want.
Normally, on our phones, we can do something similar to that, but it’s limited to software zoom. Software zoom is never as good as optical zoom as you’re just expanding the image, not actually getting closer. That’s where lens cases come into play. ShiftCam 2.0 is a case that features multiple lenses you just slide up and down, making changing your cameras view super simple.
With ShiftCam 2.0, you get easy access to 6 different lenses just by sliding the lens carrier up or down on the case. The “6-in-1” travel set of lenses features two telephoto lenses, a 180-degree fisheye, 120-degree wide angle, 10x macro, and 20x macro.
All you have to do to access these lenses is just slide the lens carrier to your desired lens choice. There are three lenses that go over the main camera, and three that go over the telephoto camera (if you have an iPhone 7/8 Plus or iPhone X.) If you have a normal iPhone 7/8 then will have four easy to access lenses that slide into place.
ShiftCam 2.0 also features a “Pro” line of lenses that give you better optics for the cameras, though those are limited to a single lens at a time. The Pro lens collection comes with a telephoto, wide angle, fisheye, traditional macro and long-range macro lens. With these options, especially if you have all 12 lenses, there won’t be a photo you can’t capture amazingly through your iPhone’s camera.
iPhones already have one of the best smartphone cameras on the market, and this really just makes them better. I’ve used things like the Moment Lens system and bitplay, which are both great lens options for your iPhone, don’t get me wrong. But having the ability to just slip the lens over my camera and not have to worry about screwing anything in would be awesome.
I’d also love to have more than one lens on me at a time, and with either Moment or bitplay, that’s just not an option. This is because, with those two case options, you have to carry around larger lenses that screw to the back of the case in order to change what your camera sees.
The thing that makes ShiftCam 2.0 so different is there is no screwing on of lenses, there is no only big or bulky lens choices. There are actual options here, and if you bring the “6-in-1” lens with you, there’s always going to be a great choice to get the exact shot you need.
ShiftCam 2.0 also features a front-facing camera lens. This lens slides in the back as normal for support but can slide over (or away from) the front-facing camera to give you a wide angle shot from the front of your device. This is great if you’re trying to take a group selfie and want to make sure everyone gets in the shot.
With nearly a month left on the Kickstarter campaign, ShiftCam 2.0 has already raised over 450% of its funding goal. Starting at the equivalent of $49 USD, this is actually not a bad price for a lens system like this. For that price, you’ll get the case, the front-facing camera lens, the “6-in-1” lens, and the magnetic lens cap.
If you’d like to get the Pro line of lenses, that starts right at $98 for the main kit plus either the wide angle, telephoto, or traditional macro, your choice.
With delivery scheduled for May of 2018, this product is slated to ship just around the corner. If you’re looking for a great way to show the world what you see, ShiftCam 2.0 could be the case for you.
