GoPro launches a trade-in program, willing to accept any digital camera

It is very likely that your current smartphone takes better photos than the antiquated digital camera collecting dust in your basement. GoPro is hoping to cash in on that by launching a digital camera trade-in program that will net customers $50 credit towards a HERO6 Black or $100 towards a Fusion.

It is evident that GoPro is launching this program in an attempt to increase sales. It is not news that GoPro has been struggling to stay relevant in an era where smartphone companies are constantly fighting to have the best all-in-one portable device. The camera in a smartphone is arguably one of the most important features that customers consider prior to making their purchase.

Many of the latest smartphones come with not one, but two cameras. The second camera allows smartphones to add features typically seen in larger cameras while managing to keep similar form-factors.

Examples of new features include distortion-free zoom and blurred backgrounds in photos. Tech companies have been able to add these features not only by adding a second camera, but also by developing custom camera software to mimic the functionality of traditional digital cameras. This is only possible due to the amount of power that smartphone processors wield. This stiff competition is likely one of the factors that has caused GoPro’s stock price to plummet over the last 2-3 years.

So why should you consider taking advantage of this trade-in program? To answer that question you need to consider what a GoPro can offer that your smartphone camera cannot. The features that often come to mind include resilience and flexibility. They go places that smartphones cannot. They can withstand harsher climates and can be attached to nearly anything. The sheer number of things that people use GoPro’s for is mind-boggling. Some common use-cases include: recording sport activity, hiking, creating time-lapses, or using it as a back-up camera or dash cam.

If any of the use-cases mentioned above sound like fun to you, consider buying a GoPro. If you do not have an old digital camera to trade-in or if the digital camera that you have is valued more than the trade-in that GoPro is offering, take a look at the available GoPros on Amazon. You may be able to save some cash by not buying directly from the manufacturer.

Don’t forget to do a quick search on eBay to see if you make a little bit more money selling it yourself and use that towards your new GoPro.
