B&O takes its iconic Earset earphones wireless for the first time

Today, B&O PLAY released the new generation of its iconic Earset. These earphones offer an adjustable design that is built-in, a standout feature that debuted in the original version of Earset. Crafted using premium materials, B&O PLAY touts that Earset is ‘made to last’.

B&O PLAY design the original Earset in the ’90s, with a heavy focus on adjustability, a feature aimed at allowing nearly anyone to feel comfortable wearing them. Many earphones today bend and are modular, allowing users to make their own custom fit, but the Earset sets themselves apart by offering built-in adjustments for angle, curve, and height. The soft rubber material used for the ear hook ensures comfort while providing the grip needed to stay held in place.

The use of high-end materials in Earset’s design means they will last you a long time. Aluminum is used for the telescopic piston and outer design. With a diamond cut-edge and polished surface, the attention to detail is remarkable. Anodization of the aluminum means Earset is available in Graphite Brown and White colors.

“We are extremely proud of our design heritage, and the original Earset has been a long-lasting favourite due to their flexible, yet precise industrial design and acoustic brilliance. We are excited to bring forward the new Earset that has been updated with wireless technology and a classic updated hue and satin”, says B&O PLAY Concept and Design Manager Jakob Kristoffersen.

Earset offers the high-quality sound that we have come to expect from the Bang & Olufsen brand. The company made a conscious decision to allow ambient sound through instead of blocking it, which it explains means that the Earset do not rest too deep in the ear, offering additional comfort.

“The challenges we faced with the acoustics back then are the same challenges we face today – ergonomics. We wanted to adapt the earphone closer to the shape of the ear, so the tip would sit in the concha of the ear with the housing supported by an earhook. As the earbud does not feel ‘enclosed’ in the ear, the sound is perceived as clearer, while allowing elements of the surrounding environment to intervene. One of the main reasons why it has been preferred by musicians and biking athletes,” says Knud-Erik Lauridsen, and mentions that the angle of the ear bud housing design has been adapted to determine the optimal angle for sound performance, with the speaker housing now tilted slightly towards the ear to ensure better sound delivery and reduce sound leakage.

Earset offers five-hour battery life which is on-par with other headphones like Apple’s truly-wireless AirPods. As mentioned earlier, Earset is available two colors, Graphite Brown and White. Both models are priced at $299. Graphite Brown is available today directly from B&O and also from Amazon. White will be available starting in June.
