As eBikes take over as a budget option for commuters who’d rather not buy a car, more and more people are riding bikes on public roads.
One issue that faces bikers everywhere is turning. How do you signal to vehicles behind (or in front) of you that you want to turn? Sure, there’s hand signals, but they don’t always draw a lot of attention. That’s where Blinkers come in. This is a name we have called turn signals forever, but now it’s a company who makes signals for bikes and it should result in safer riding for everyone.
Blinkers is a smart lighting system for cyclists that gives you the option to make clearly signaled turns and let everyone know what you’re planning to do. More and more people these days are foregoing regular cars and motorcycles for eBike alternatives, due to initial price and the fact that most eBikes are battery-powered, cutting down on noise and economic impact.
These turn signals will be a great way to be sure you remain safe while riding. The smart lighting system includes front, rear, and laser illumination and starts at $120.
Blinkers aim to be the “next-generation” of bike lights by adding not only turn signals but brake lights and laser projections with simple remote controls.
The company states that two-thirds of cyclist injuries or fatalities occur at or near a road junction and that having turn signals or brake lights could help alleviate that number.
Blinkers indicate the direction you decide to turn, by blinking left or right, and the rear Blinker features a red light that becomes more intense while you stop, alerting drivers around you that you’ll soon be coming to a stop.
The laser set allows you to project a half circle on the ground which will increase visibility at night and give vehicles around you a better understanding of your position and space on the road.
All of these features are controlled by a wireless remote that sits on your handlebar making it super simple to activate and use. The remote communicates over RF, so there are no wires here to worry about and install should be fairly simple.
Blinkers are powered via USB and last around 20 hours on a single charge. Any bike can use Blinkers as the company includes a universal attachment system, and the turn signals can easily be removed thanks to its magnetic system.
Blinkers were on Kickstarter previously and were successfully funded. Now they available directly from the manufacturer without having to worry about any issues that normally comes with crowdfunding.
These turn signal kits come in four packages, which range from $120 to $240 depending on which options you choose. The base kit, running $120, will net you just the rear turn signal and brake light without any lasers, and $240 will get you everything (rear, front, and laser lighting).
