Mario Tennis Aces is free-to-play this weekend, a full three weeks before its official launch

Nintendo’s Switch has been the recipient of many acclaimed games, and more are rumored to be announced at E3 in just about a week or so. One upcoming game that has everyone excited is Mario Tennis Aces. This weekend only, you’ll have a chance to try it out and participate in a pre-launch tournament.

This event started today at 3PM ET but runs through Sunday, June 3rd at 11:59PM ET. That’s right, you’ll have nearly two and a half days to try out this new Mario Tennis game.

To play is simple, you’ll download the game from the Nintendo eShop on your Switch or you can head on over to the Mario Tennis Aces landing page.

One of my favorite Nintendo games from recent memory was tennis on Wii Sports. I can’t tell you how many hours I put into that game, and it looks like that’s finally back, but with a familiar Mario twist.

There seem to be multiple game modes here. You can play others in singles or doubles, perform trick shots, and more.

Playing methods are plenteous, too. You can play locally or online. There’s even a Swing mode that lets you use the Joy-Con to swat at tennis balls like you’re really in the game.

There are computer opponents, and multiple cups you can participate in: Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, or Star Cup in Tournament mode.

There’s even an adventure mode that offers a new type of tennis gameplay with missions, boss battles, and more. This really is a new style of tennis game that we’ve not seen.

This weekend is a good chance to test out Mario Tennis Aces to see if it’s a game you want to drop some hard-earned cash on or not. With a purchase price of $60 (or $48 for Prime members), this game will set you back just a bit, so this weekend is the perfect time to see if it’s for you.

This is the first Mario tennis game since the Game Boy Advanced to feature that story mode we mentioned above.

Character-wise, you’ll be able to play as Mario, Luigi, Waluigi, and more. This looks to be a super fun game, and I honestly can’t wait for it to come out.

Mario Tennis Aces releases globally on June 22nd, so that’s just a little over three weeks away. This game is already a #1 new-release on Amazon, and fans are clamoring for it to finally launch.
