Hitman 2 just got leaked ahead of E3, here’s everything we know so far

(Update 6/7 3:00pm): As expected, the leaks were true and Hitman 2 is now a real thing. There’s a new co-op Sniper Mode you’ll get access to right now with pre-orders. You’ll find the announcement trailers below.

E3 2018 is fast approaching with the first of many major showcases kicking off this Saturday. The game leaks have already forced developers into several early unveils including Rage 2, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and quite possibly the new Pokemon RPGs for Switch. And while it looks as though Warner Bros. was already planning a special announcement for this Thursday, leaks are now suggesting Hitman 2 is more than likely on its way.

The Hitman franchise originally started back in 2000 with Hitman: Codename 47. The stealth assassination game garnered a cult following since then, before the series was rebooted a couple of years ago. The sixth entry in the series, titled simply Hitman, was a somewhat divisive experience among gamers back in 2016, mainly due to its episodic release structure, but it did quite well among critical pundits with a 84 meta score.

Back in 2006, developer IO Interactive released Hitman: Blood Money – a game that has become and remains to be the pinnacle of Agent 47’s global killing spree. While many felt the new Hitman in 2016 brought some of that magic back, here’s to hoping what appears to be Hitman 2 will get us even closer.

A logo for Hitman 2 was leaked accidentally onto the Warner Bros. website but has since disappeared. WB then took to Twitter with a pair of teaser posts seemingly pointing at the next entry in the Hitman series. After the official teasers went public via the Warner Bros. and Hitman accounts, fans were able to dig the logo back up off the official site’s servers.

Take a look at the Twitter teasers for yourself right here:

Through some careful deduction (and a bit of common sense if you ask me), fans have been able to pinpoint the teasers back to Hitman which will clearly be getting some kind of reveal on Thursday, June 7th.

And here’s that logo we were mentioning above:

Hitman 2 looks as though it will be a direct follow-up to the 2016 release, but nothing is set in stone at this point. It is hard to say whether or not the “new game” will indeed be a totally separate stand-alone experience or if it will continue the first season of Hitman (2016).

It seems like many developers these days are trying to create a more episodic development structure around popular IPs in order to continue profiting from them for years to come without having to go back to the drawing board for a totally new idea. While that hasn’t exactly been as successful as the devs would like, it is entirely possible this will be more like Hitman 1.5 than a true sequel.
