Mid-century modern design has seen a rebirth in recent years as trends of clean lines, mixed materials and retro vibes have come back into style. Along with that, we’re seeing more and more American-based furniture manufacturers pop-up on the scene with unique builds that really standout from the usual offerings at West Elm and the like.
One of those designers is Sitskie out of Detroit, Michigan. It’s small line of products is highlighted by those very characteristics that have given mid-century modern design a re-birth in the 2010s. One of its latest products is the Open 45 Credenza that features gorgeous lines and puts your vinyl collection on full display. Head below for more details.
Sitskie launched in Detroit back in 2012 by a husband and wife design duo, Vanessa and Adam Friedman, with eyes on developing a thoughtful line of products. There’s a heavy focus on dark woods and mixed materials throughout their lineup of products, which are made to standout from home goods you’d find at the mall and the like. Every product is made by hand in Detroit by either Sitskie or a group of local artisans.
This is arguably Sitskie’s most intriguing release to date. They are cashing in on the popular vinyl trends with an open-faced design that is meant to show off your record collection and more. It’s available in two sizes, 60 or 84-inches with a 20-inch height. There’s various wood options and finishes available, which can be customized at the time of purchase. It ships with either matte black or brass finishes.
The Open 45 Credenza promotes the use of your vinyl collection. Many record collections are hidden from sight in cabinets, stacked anonymously on a shelf, or stored too low to reach comfortably. The inspiration for the OPEN 45 is the idea of keeping your records in sight and ready to play, allowing you to spend time enjoying the fidelity of your vinyl.
Sitskie uses a modular design on this credenza, which allows you to customize the layout to your needs. The slotted interior allows the pieces to slide from side-to-side giving room for the addition of a display area and more. Its base configuration offers space for a record player, headphone stand, up to 50 records and a few books. That can all be adjusted based on your needs.
I’m a big fan personally of the clean lines and modular build. While the integrated vinyl storage is a big draw, my favorite feature is the headphone stand that puts your favorite cans front and center.
