Amazon will automatically send you more coffee or snacks thanks to this smart container

Amazon’s Dash Replenishment Service arrived on the scene back in 2015 as a way to simplify your life. It was designed for manufacturers to integrate with various products, automatically re-ordering supplies such as ink for printers when needed. To date, the response has been somewhat lukewarm.

The service has primarily been embraced by the office supply community. Brother printers were a key partner at launch and has continued to offer various products with Dash functionality built-in. After that, third-party developers have been rather slow to jump on this service. A new product from WePlenish offers to automate the grocery buying experience by leveraging Amazon’s API in a new organizer. Whether it’s coffee or snacks, this smart pantry device eliminates those sad moments when the cupboard is bare.

Officially, it’s called the WePlenish Java Smart Container. There’s a lot of possibilities that come with this product, but it’s relationship with Amazon Dash Replenish also has some notable drawbacks. Most notably, it is only compatible with select brands. So hopefully you like K-cups and single shot espresso. All told there are just under 100 brands that have been identified by WePlenish as being compatible with this new system.

So here’s how it works. Upon arrival, users will download the free smartphone app and link it up an Amazon account. From there you can pick and choose which items you’ll be using in conjunction with the Smart Container. Once you’re set up, the built-in sensors will track usage and automatically place an order with WePlenish when the time is right.

Simplify life with WePlenish Java: the world’s first smart container integrated with Amazon Dash Replenishment that automatically reorders your favorite coffee pods and other pantry items when supplies run low, so you never run out. Smart sensors detect inventory levels and Wi-Fi automatically replenishes your must-haves to keep them in stock.

There’s a lot to be intrigued about on a product like this, but in practice, its usefulness may vary by individual. It’s easy to see the downfalls, say a child empties the container and causes Amazon to automatically re-order another batch of goodies. On the flipside, if you’re someone who goes through coffee fairly quickly, this is a nice way to make sure you’re never out of beans.

The WePlenish Java Smart Container is available for pre-oder today, direct from the manufacturer, for $20. It’s expected to retail for around $40 when it finally hits the market later this year. You can learn more about Amazon’s Dash Replenishment service right here.
