LG intros new 4K HDR10 monitor with expected $500 price tag

This morning LG has announced its newest 4K 32UK550-B monitor, a 31.5-inch display that packs HDR and more. It’s priced at $500 which puts it right in the mid-range of 4K alternatives on the market. LG has been slow to roll out HDR monitors, so today’s news is a welcome announcement. In fact, its their first priced below $500. Head below for more.

LG introduces 32UK550-B monitor

The LG 32UK550-B display ships with a 31.5-inch panel that supports both 4K and HDR content. It can produce over 1-billion colors and covers 95% of the DCI-P3 spectrum. Basically, it can handle any sRGB color out there.

LG eases any concerns that shoppers may have spending less than $500 on a 4K monitor by delivering 60Hz refresh rates and 300 nits brightness. Two specs that can often be ignored in the low price ranges. It ships with a full calibrated display, which is a welcome move by the manufacturer. Most monitors these days require a fair amount of tweaking out of the box for peak performance.

Officially, we’re seeing HDR10 support on the 32UK550-B. With more content providers offering this type of high-resolution medium, there’s more opportunity to enjoy crystal clear video than ever before. Those with an Amazon Prime or Netflix subscription, and a hefty iTunes library, will most notably be able to enjoy full HDR content with this new monitor.

LG’s latest ships with two HDMI 2.0a ports along with a single DisplayPort 1.2 input. All ports offer HDCP 2.2 , which is a requirement by most services that offer HDR content. Unfortunately, you won’t find any USB ports on today’s release. Dual 5W speakers round out the list of notable specs.

LG’s latest monitor is likely very attractive to anyone looking for a new display that packs both 4K and HDR. But perhaps the $500 price tag is just a bit too much to spend. The reality is, it’s tough to come by a monitor under $500 that includes both of those specs. Here are a few alternatives worth checking out.

BenQ 28-inch 4K HDR Gaming Monitor: $429 – This BenQ monitor isn’t the most attractive alternative, but it meets all of the requirements for $70 less than today’s LG monitor. It ships with HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, which makes it perfect for any Mac setup. Rated 4.3/5 stars.

Monoprice 32-inch 4K HDR Monitor: $440 – Monoprice has been making lower-cost alternatives for some time. This one packs 4K at 60fps along with HDMI and AMD’s FreeSync technology. Monoprice monitors typically have solid ratings at Amazon.

Sceptre 27-inch 4K Monitor: $210 – If you’re willing to ditch the HDR compatibility, this option from Sceptre is over 50% less and still packs 4K, HDMI inputs and more. Over 50% of reviewers left a 4+ star rating.
