Whole Foods expands delivery and pickup for Prime members, save $10 on first order

Amazon Whole Foods Black Friday

This morning Amazon has announced that Whole Foods delivery and pickup is expanding in more cities around the United States. Today’s news brings this service to Annapolis, Cleveland, Louisville, North and Central New Jersey and Pittsburgh. Amazon is also rolling out additional coverage in the San Francisco bay area. More below.

What is Whole Foods delivery and pickup?

When Amazon acquired Whole Foods over a year ago, it was clear that a number of changes were coming down the line for the grocer. Amazon has substantial experience with logistics and delivery so it was a natural evolution for Whole Foods to explore new customer services.

Quickly, Whole Foods rolled out in-store pickup and local delivery in select markets. Over the last year it has slowly expanded this service across the country.

In typical Amazon fashion, a Prime membership is required to take advantage of this service. The Prime Now iOS and Android app can be used for placing an order and selecting pickup or delivery. Members can choose free pickup on orders of $35+ in an hour, or have their delivery ready in 30 minutes for an additional $5 fee.

Similar fees apply for delivery but do vary based on location. The Prime Now hub offers a detailed look at what can be delivered between 8:00am and 10:00pm.

Does Whole Foods offer delivery discounts?

Yes, they do. Right now you can use promo code SAVE10WF at checkout to save $10 off your first delivery. This offer is good through the end of November and can only be used on an account’s first order. This is a great way to give Whole Foods delivery a try and save a little along the way.

Where will Whole Foods delivery expand next?

Whole Foods is currently offering delivery in large markets all across the country. You can expect Amazon to expand this service to all retail locations in the United States over the next few years. At a minimum, curbside pickup is expected to make a serious push in the coming year as it requires far less infrastructure than delivery.
