Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 gets its biggest content update yet w/ new Specialist, more

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is one of the best updates to the franchise in years. In fact, we even called it “our favorite CoD in years” in our full review. Though the game has gotten some nice updates so far (like Nuketown), it’s time for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s largest content update yet: Operation Absolute Zero.

Treyarch will be updating multiple aspects of the game tomorrow, December 11th starting first on PlayStation 4. You’ll soon have a new Specialist to choose from named Zero, new guns, and even Blackout will be getting some updates. Read on to learn more.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 — Operation Absolute Zero Multiplayer Update

New Specialist — Zero

Operation Absolute Zero centers around the new Specialist in Black Ops 4. Zero, as she’s called, is a hacker. You’ll be able to disable nearby Specialist abilities with her equipment, and her main ability will allow you to fully hack other player’s abilities during gameplay. You’ll have to complete Tier 1 in the Black Market to unlock Zero and can then start using her as an in-game character right away.

New Guns: Daemon 3XB SMG & SWAT RFT Assault Rifle

You’ll find two new weapons, plus new camos and reticles to unlock during gameplay. They’ll be available through the Black Market, and look like they could be great additions to the game.

This is one area in which I’m excited to see the game grow. The normal gameplay is great already, but the gun selection needs to be constantly updated otherwise once you reach max level (or max prestige if you so choose), things can get boring. New weapons, specialists, and tasks are crucial to the long-term survival of this game, and so far, Treyarch is doing a great job at it.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 — Operation Absolute Zero Blackout Update

Little changes: Weapon balancing, audio improvements, more

Treyarch is making some minor changes to Blackout this time around, along with a few big things. You’ll soon have armor repair systems, audio improvements, along with some weapon balancing and seasonal changes across the map. You’ll also notice new smoke trails to better indicate where people are landing across the map once you jump, and it’ll be interesting to see how that affects gameplay. All of those changes started today, but beginning tomorrow, even more are being added.

New additions: Hijacked, vehicles, Zero, more

Let’s start with Hijacked. This was a beloved map from Call of Duty games in the past, and a welcomed addition to Blackout. It’ll be located in the northwest quadrant of the map, and will be a unique area to land in Blackout. From corners to hide, to be on the open waters, this should be a great place for anyone who lands there.

You’ll find a new vehicle, the ARAV, in Blackout as well. It’s armored, offers a turret-mounted weapon for your friends to jump into, and it will be a great vehicle to drive across the map in.

Zero also makes her appearance in this new update. After unlocking her, you’ll be able to spawn into the game as the new Specialist.

Blackout will also be getting some additions from the Black market, like new characters, outfits, warpaints, and more.

Lastly, as part of this update, Treyarch will be adding more content to Blackout (soon). Things like custom games, weapons camos, stash interface updates, throwable snowballs, and more will all make their way to the game shortly.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 — Operation Absolute Zero Zombies Update

New features: Daily Callings, Authenticity Stamp System, Daily Tier Skips

Daily Callings provide a new challenge that gives Zombies players bonus XP and Nebulium Plasma when they complete it. Since “Daily” is in the name, you guessed it, new challenges will drop each and every day, giving you new ways to level up faster and more goals to complete in the game.

The Authenticity Stamp system will give you a way of sharing (and verifying) scores online with personalized codes generated at the end of each match. You’ll be able to verify things like:

  • Number of kills, deaths, downs, revives, headshots, and rounds survived
  • Map selection, game type, numbers of players, and difficulty attempted
  • Special Weapons, Equipment, and Talismans used
  • Perks and Elixirs equipped
  • Number of Elixirs consumed
  • Match duration, score spent, final score, and more

Lastly, you’ll now earn Black Market Tier progression when playing Zombies, plus be able to use Daily Tier Skips. Just complete 15 rounds in one game of Classic Zombies and you’ll get a daily bonus Black Market Tier.

I’m excited for this update personally, and can’t wait for it to hit all systems. Treyarch is releasing Operation Absolute Zero starting with PlayStation 4 on December 11th, and other platforms will follow. Generally, there’s about a week between release timeframes, but that’s always subject to change.
