While the release of a new film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe excites both comic enthusiasts and movie-goers alike, LEGO fans can’t help but get in on anticipation as well. With Captain Marvel hitting theaters in early March 2019, we’ve gotten our first look at LEGO and Marvel’s latest collaboration. This weekend, the first kit was officially released that ties in with the film.
The first kit to be released alongside the 2019 MCU film, Captain Marvel and The Skrull Attack (76127), stacks up to 307 pieces. It is mainly comprised of a fighter jet-esque starfighter that resembles an early version of the Quinjet. The design is actually nice for its smaller size and it even features eight flick-fire missiles as well.
There are three notable minifigures in the set, all of which are exclusives at this point. Of course you have Captain Marvel herself, as well as a young Nick Fury and a Skrull named Talos. Also included is a cat figure named Goose. I’m not super familiar with all of Captain Marvel’s backstory, but given that the cat actually has a name, I am willing to bet it’s at least slightly important to the plot.
There’s no official release date for the newest kit as of now. It will retail for $29.99, which is actually a pretty solid price for a kit attached to a licensed property like Captain Marvel. At just over ten cents per part, it’s right on the money as an easily-recommendable kit.
I’m sure we’ll see more Captain Marvel minifigures in the future. But the other two very well could stay exclusives to this release. Ant-Man and the Wasp only saw one set released alongside the film, and with a new Avengers film following Captain Marvel, LEGO might be saving set releases for that tie-in.
Speaking of which, the release of the first Captain Marvel set this early also means that it won’t be long before some Avengers: Endgame kits start popping up. Odds are details won’t drop until early 2019. But with the highly-anticipated film more arriving in April, it’s pretty likely that we’ll get a look come late January or early February.
