3D printers have become one of the most intriguing technologies to come down in price for consumers in recent years. We have already seen a flood of them on Kickstarter and price drops at Amazon. In hopes of standing out from the pack, a new product is utilizing a multifaceted robotic arm that can handle 3D printing in addition to milling, laser engraving and electronics assembly. Even better, Makerarm is pretty good looking too.
Hailed as a “complete personal fabrication system”, Makerarm utilizes an interchangeable head to handle all of those tasks. The aforementioned rundown doesn’t even cover the full feature list. It also has a vinyl cutting system, a plotting head, and is capable of picking up and placing parts during builds.
Makerarm is based around a tall piece of plastic that houses the CPU, motor system and an arm that moves up and down to reach all sides of the project. The extendable arm can also bend as needed to articulate up to 30-inches during jobs when needed. This system creates a generally large work area in comparison to traditional 3D printers that are limited to a boxed-in space.
The system is controlled via Wi-Fi from your computer where instructions are dolled out based on the project. Makerarm has a built-in self-leveling system that should make setup fairly simple. On a larger scale, this product is notable for its ability to combine many different products into one user-friendly device. In a world where launching a product is Kickstarter video away, Makerarm opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for at-home inventors.
Private beta testing is just beginning to launch for Makerarm ahead of its release. Pricing and mass availability has yet to be announced. Not ready to make the jump to owning your own 3D printer? Be sure to check out Amazon’s service that is loaded with many pre-designed products from NCAA football stadiums to your favorite video game characters.
