eBike continue to grow as a commuters’ preferred ride of choice, helping them ditch public transportation or giving a boost in longer daily rides. Often times though, the bulky designs of these vehicles make it difficult to store or transport when not riding, removing some of the convenience. A new Indiegogo campaign looks to change this by introducing a folding eBike that pairs speed with autonomy and efficiency. Designed by France-based electric vehicle maker Weebot, Aero is, at its core, built around a lightweight folding form-factor.
This foldable design choice results in a vehicle which can be compressed into a more compact configuration in just three seconds. Paired with the fact that Aero only weights 46-lbs, makes the eBike much more versatile for stowing and transporting.
Measuring in at just about 4 feet long and a foot wide, Aero manages to fit both front and rear suspension into its compact form. An added ‘ultra-soft’ saddle completes the vehicle’s smooth and comfortable drive.
Aero currently comes in two models which offer different motorsconfigurations. The lower-end of the two, the Aero Plus, can reach top speeds of 15 mph, while the Aero S caps out at 22 mph. In both cases, they’re estimated to travel at a 45 mile range. Regardless of which model suits you, each are available in black, red and blue finishes. Aero also packs a Panasonic Lithium battery, which is said to be the same as those found in Tesla.
The foldable eBike also includes many of the bells and whistles found in existing high-end alternatives like integrated headlight, turn signal, break light and LCD display. The display itself showcases battery level, remaining distance and one’s current speed. It also allows you to switch between three different modes drive modes.
Aero’s Indiegogo campaign has raised $33,061 on its way to meeting the end goal of $80,000. With a month left, you can still back the eBike starting at the early bird price of $849 for the Aero Plus, or $949 for the Aero S. In both cases, you’ll save 55% from the eventual retail prices. As of now, Weebot plans to be shipping Aero later this year in August, assuming all goes well until then.
The Aero is a superb foldable e-bike that dramatically improves urban transport, and marks a turning point in the development of electric mobility. After two years of extensive research and observation, the Aero has been born.
