While most of us are fine popping in a pair of earbuds and listening to our favorite jams from our smartphones, audiophiles and other music enthusiasts are always looking for new ways to enjoy their media. Today FiiO has brought a new high-end audio player to market, which packs USB-C among other high-end features sure to draw in those looking for an elevated music experience.
The Chinese audio company has long been a well-known name in the high-end audio space, having released a variety of devices and headphones over the years. Today FiiO is officially introducing the M7, its latest Hi-Fi audio player.
One of the most notable inclusions with FiiO’s latest media player is that it’s said to be one of the first high-fidelity devices on the market which packs USB-C. The port not only allows you to charge and sync content over to the M7, but also sports audio playback through USB-C headphones. This will be great news for music fans who already own a pair of higher-end headphones, but those with more affordable options won’t be able to indulge their ears with the same benefits. Most low-cost USB-C headphones have inexpensive DACs built in, which won’t be able to take full advantage of the audio fidelity that the M7 outputs.
Otherwise, FiiO’s M7 sports many of features you’d expect a modern-day music player to include. A 3.2-inch touchscreen, LDAC Bluetooth, 20 hours of battery life, FM radio and more come packed in the M7’s slick aluminum body. The casing also boasts physical buttons for skipping tracks and pausing the music, as well as a dial for controlling volume.
Another of the M7’s big selling points is that it supports FLAC and other high-resolution audio file playback. It unfortunately only includes 2GB of built-in storage, but supports microSD cards up to 512GB. This isn’t a huge let down, but it means you’ll have to pick up an additional memory card to hold your library.
The latest addition to FiiO’s high-end audio lineup launches with a $200 list price. In terms of the company’s other offerings, the M7 enters at a midrange price with appropriate specs for its going rate. It is currently available for purchase through FiiO’s authorized retailers.
It’s definitely on the more affordable end as far as Hi-Fi media players go, but it’ll be a hard sell for anyone who relies on Apple Music, Spotify or other streaming services. Those looking to enjoy high-end audio on the go are sure to appreciate FiiO’s latest, but I think I’ll stick to my iPhone and AirPods for now.
