The next Nintendo Direct showcase starts now with the latest Indie World presentation. Following September’s exciting prime time event where we finally got the official name for the upcoming Zelda title, news of GoldenEye heading to the Switch Online library, confirmation of Pikmin 4, and more, today we are in for 25 straight minutes of upcoming indie titles landing on Switch throughout the rest of the year and beyond. While it might not be the GoldenEye 007 update you were hoping for, Nintendo has now announced Mario Party for Switch Online. Now scheduled to land on Switch Online starting early next month, Nintendo is bringing both of the original Mushroom Kingdom party games to its membership service to enjoy with friends and family over the holidays. The next Nintendo Direct showcase is scheduled to kick off right now with fresh looks at the best new Switch games. While we have seen some smaller and dedicated events for Splatoon 3, not to mention the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet announcement, today’s presentation marks the second major Direct event of the year after February’s broadcast delivered exciting new details on Mario Strikers Battle League, Kirby and the Forgotten Lands, Nintendo Switch Sports, the Mario Kart 8 remastered courses, and more. Today we are getting our first good look at the new Nintendo Switch console known as the OLED Model Splatoon 3 Edition. While technically just a themed version of the latest hybrid machine from the brand, the new Nintendo Switch console will be splashing down come early August just before the matching Splatoon 3 Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and Nintendo Switch Splatoon 3 Edition Carrying Case. While we await the rumored Game Boy library, Nintendo added some new titles to the Switch Online game list. This time around it is the base-tier Super Nintendo library that is seeing some new games in the form of three special edition versions of some classic SNES Kirby titles. The latest in the Kirby series, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, hit the Switch library back in March to positive critical reviews just before Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards landed on the N64 Switch Online game list, but subscribers of Nintendo’s online service can now enjoy SP versions of Kirby Super Star, Kirby’s Dream Land 3, and Kirby’s Dream Course. Nintendo took to its official Twitter feed to announced Kirby 64 for Switch Online. After Kirby’s latest adventure to the Forgotten Land received solid reviews while delivering the titular character’s first true jump into three dimensions, Nintendo will be dishing up a chance for its Expansion tier subscribers to revisit the N64-era Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards via its online service later this month. Now that Switch Sports is out in the wild, it’s time to turn our attention to the new Mario Strikers Battle League ahead of its launch next month. The next big sports outing for the Mushroom Kingdom has Mario and friends taking the pitch in Nintendo’s latest themed soccer title. Centered around what sounds like a version of European football Nintendo has invented known as Strike, it is described as a “soccer-like sport with no rules” where players do whatever it takes to win. Nintendo has just launched a new overview trailer with nearly five minutes of gameplay footage and details. Head below for a closer look. 

In a strange turn of events for the video game industry these days, the next big Nintendo Switch RPG is getting its release moved up. After the announcement trailer hit back during the massive February Direct presentation, Nintendo announced the next adventure in the Monolithsoft-developed Xenoblade saga would be arriving in September 2022.  But according to an official tweet from the Nintendo Twitter account today, the game will now be arriving this summer with a special edition package coming via the Nintendo Store. After seeing a rare price drop on new condition OLED model Switch consoles this morning, Nintendo has now unveiled some NES and new SNES Switch Online games. Nintendo has been focused on adding value to its newer N64 and SEGA libraries as of late – we saw F-Zero X and some new Genesis titles this month after Legend of Zelda Majora’s Mask launched in February – but it is now ready to bring some new classics to the entry level tier for the rest of us. Happy Kirby and the Forgotten Land launch day folks! It has been a long time coming for Kirby to truly get the 3D AAA treatment on Nintendo hardware, but the wait is finally over. Forgotten Land does all that and more with positive reviews on the pink hero’s latest adventure hitting all over the net. You can still score a copy of the game on sale via Amazon, not to mention the FREE demo if you’re still on the fence. Or you can go full price with some extra goodies at Walmart and GameStop. Update 7/28: Nintendo has now taken to its official Twitter page to announced the Wave 2 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass will arrive on August 4, 2022. “Available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members at no additional cost, or on its own as paid DLC.” More details and video below.

Nintendo made some major announcements during yesterday’s Direct showcase, not the least of which were the 48 new Mario Kart courses coming to the latest iteration of its beloved kart racer. New FREE Metroid DLC, Earthbound coming to Switch Online, the new Mario Strikers Battle League, and the upcoming Switch Sports were all exciting to say the least, but Nintendo also announced a sizable new injection of content with the new Mario Kart courses that will run right through until the end of 2023. A collection of private data from NVIDIA has hit the internet as part of a recent cyberattack suggesting Nintendo Switch 2 might already be in development in some way, shape or form. That Nintendo Switch Pro rumor that surfaced several times last year and even before that never quite came true, yet. The new OLED model of Nintendo’s hybrid console that was unveiled last summer before hitting store shelves in October brought with it an impressive new display alongside some other light enhancements over the base model, but it wasn’t quite the Pro model or Nintendo Switch 2 some gamers were hoping for. And while we don’t have direct confirmation at this time that a new machine is even in the works just yet, a recent NVIDIA data leak might suggest it is. Head below for more details. 

Update: Walmart is now throwing in an extra free exclusive steel water bottle with pre-orders on physical copies of Nintendo’s upcoming Switch Sports title at $49.99 – the same price pre-orders sell for at Amazon and elsewhere without the bottle. 

It has been a big month for Nintendo fans after an exciting Direct presentation, a series of upcoming Mario Kart 8 courses, and more, but now it’s time to dive into the new Switch Sports. As a sequel to the best-selling Nintendo game of all-time, Wii Sports, Nintendo is looking to re-capture some of the magic from its motion-controlled blockbuster from way back in 2006 with an updated version for its current-generation hardware. After selling well over 82 million copies, and now that Switch has finally overtaken the console it was made for in sales, it seems a fitting time for Switch sports to make a triumphant return.
