Race around the track w/ Mario, Luigi, and friends in Monopoly Gamer: Mario Kart

Monopoly has been around for years and years. I’ve played it almost my entire life, and it’s a game that can be played by just about any age. The premise of the game is fairly simple, go around the board and buy properties to make others pay rent when they land on them. Oh, avoid going to jail too.

Though there isn’t much to be improved upon with base gameplay here, as messing with the function of Monopoly would be a cardinal sin, one area that can be changed is design. Recently, Hasbro released a Mario Kart version of Monopoly, and I’ve gotta have it. But, Hasbro did change a little more than just design here. Read below for more details.

Gaming For Couples: Monopoly Plus, or, if at first you don’t succeed, try again

Our prior Gaming For Couples articles have focused on “slam dunk” titles – games that are highly likely to appeal to both people in a couple for various reasons. But for this week’s column, I decided to try something different: picking a niche, relatively unknown game that seemed on the surface to be a really good fit for my murder mystery-loving spouse, but didn’t wind up working out. I’m sharing the story because it was a valuable learning experience, and how we handled it might help you get out of a similar jam.

We wound up buying a classic board game she liked, instead. And in retrospect, just doing that in the first place would have been a lot easier. Read on for the story.
